The celebration of Easter
Easter is undoubtedly the most important spring festival in our culture, a time of rebirth, hope and joy. From a religious perspective, Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Christ, the victory of light over darkness, an event that has marked human history.
Easter also has ancient roots that go back to Judaic tradition. “Pesach,” Passover, represents the liberation of the Jewish people from Egypt and the exodus to the Promised Land. This is a celebration derived from an ancient harvest festival of the first ears of barley.
“Pesach” literally means “going beyond,” “leaving out,” i.e.,“passing through.” It thus celebrates not only the transition from death to life and from darkness to light, but also the transition from winter to spring, the season of rebirth and renewal.
